Archibald Knox (1864 - 1933) was born on the Isle of Man to parents of Scots descent. [more]

GuildCraft's Archibald Knox Collection features three original Celtic designs rendered in the same authentic period colors as our Voysey Collection, which coordinate beautifully with original and reproduction fabrics, upholstery, and wallcoverings.  Hand-knotted in India of pure New Zealand wool, these GuildCraft carpets possess a uniform color and surface texture. The look is authentic to the period, and people rave about the soft hand and plush quality of these fine carpets.

Standard and custom sizes available, and of course all are RUGMARK-certified free of child labor.

Archibald Knox

Archibald Knox was ideally suited to this new trend in Celtic design. He was born and raised on the Isle of Man and was steeped in the Celtic history, culture and design of the island. Once he moved to England in 1897 to take up a teaching post in Surrey, he quickly became involved as one of Liberty's designers.

Knox was able to produce design work that was influenced by traditional Celtic design, using interwoven leaf patterns, complex knotwork with stylized animals and birds, but simplifying the work so as to make it more appealing and accessible to the modern consumer.

From ACHOme:

Archibald Knox, (1864-1933) was perhaps the most fluid and creative of the Arts & Crafts designers. His wonderfully evocative designs harking to an ancient Celtic harmony yet touching a most modern and stimulating sense within the viewer.

On this site I have presented an overview of the life, history and works of Archibald Knox, and would be very happy to hear from any collectors and historians with further information and insights.

I have many original designs by Knox for sale, and we offer a large range of his designs replicated as wallpapers, fabrics and metalware. We are always interested in purchasing similar items. We also offer a listing and search facility for collectors and dealers.

This site would not have been possible without the guidance, co-operation and assistance of Dr. Steve Martin, the World's foremost authority and leading collector of Archibald Knox designs, and author of the 2 leading books, 'Archibald Knox' published by ArtMedia.
