This motif is based on a runner design by George M. Niedecken for the Demmer residence, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Niedecken was a talented architect and designer who worked with most of the Prairie architects, Wright among them, on the many and varied details of their interiors. Like Wright, Niedecken would design furniture, lighting, metalware, murals, textiles and rugs for his clients. The Demmer commission was a typical, large project, which included furniture as well as rugs.
